The Duck Egg Blues

Great sadness!  My lovely white duck, Petula, was taken by a fox the other night.  We went to York in the morning so Roberto hadn't been on his daily goose chase down at the pond.  When we came back later on and went  to the pond, there was a pile of Petula's lovely white feathers and 11 of her 16 eggs had been taken (eaten) as well.  We rescued the remaining eggs and called our Pet Rescue friend (the young lad who rescued the ducks and brought them to our pond).  He has an egg incubator and is going to continue to warm up the remaining 5 eggs and hopefully in about 3 weeks we should have some little mini Petulas.

Poor old Fatty seems a bit lost without her.  They had been together since they were born but he's hanging out with the guys at the moment and doing "guy" stuff so I think he will be okay.  He will get a big surprise if/when his 5 kids turn up unexpectedly.

  1. Please accept my sincere condolences on the violent passing of Petula. Naturally, I am hoping that in those remaining eggs at least one new life will stir to take Petula's place. (Sent with a cyber-hug)

  2. Thanks YP. I know it's nature but I was still upset about her and all those eggs. I know she had a happy year with us so that makes me feel better.

  4. Oh that is so sad... but I suppose it's what happens in nature and you can't be on guard all the time. Let's hope for some mini Petulas soon...x

    1. Thanks Edwina. I miss her already. We always had a wee chat when I went to feed them.

    1. I know, we always get robbed and that woman who won had a serious facial hair problem.
